Food and drinks

The nearest shop is to be found in Jarnages at approx. 8 km distance south of La Semnadisse; In Gouzon and Guéret (13 and 23 km) you will find larger supermarkets.

Fresh French loafs, croissants etc. ordered in the evening, can be collected at the farm the next morning.

In the yard you will find our cosy café situated in the old hangar, very informal with old chairs and tables like a real brocante; from 16.00 hrs we serve various wines, beers and soft drinks, as well as ice cream. Table tennis, table football, reading in a comfy armchair, books available for all ages.

Once a week we offer a meal, like homemade pizzas from the original wood burning bread oven. Vegetarians are served as well of course.

In 2006 we started the association 'Obole' (French for small coin/small contribution). It is this association that organizes the meals; the major part of the proceeds is donated to a charity. Each year we donate through the sale of home-made pizzas an amount of around € 2000 to e.g. Medecins Sans Frontières and/or Medair France. Thanks to all the volunteers helping us!

To be noted that lots of help in preparing all these pizzas comes from our guests, adults and children alike! It can be carrying wood for the oven or putting it on the fire (hours and hours before cooking to get the right temperature).

We find ourselves often with more than 10/15 parents and children around the kitchen table to cut and prepare all ingredients, make sauce and dough. The little ones adore making dough balls for the pizza base. Very busy, but very pleasant as well! The pizzas can be eaten at your own tent or caravan pitch, but almost everybody chooses to join us in the hangar. At the bar drinks are being served, or ice-cream for dessert, but the nicest after dinner treat is time and again the ride in the little carriage behind the tractor...!
